The ozone layer is a gaseous membrane that envelops Earth. Ozone layer acts as a defensive shell for the planet's living organisms. The primary role of the ozone layer is to keep out the Sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. The ozone layer damage is a cause of concern, since it can not effectively filter out ultraviolet rays and this can cause a number of skin issues, such as skin darkening and skin cancer. And the ozone layer holds the planet's temperature constant. Damage to the layer may lead to the death of many phytoplanktons, leading to increased global warming. Chlorofluorocarbons \((CFCs)\) are ozone-damaging compounds. To minimize the damage to the ozone layer, it is important to reduce the release of \(CFCs\) into the atmosphere. \(CFCs\) used as refrigerants and in fire extinguishers should be replaced with substitutes which are environmental friendly. There should also be regulation over the release of \(CFCs\) from industrial activities.
