When white light enters a prism, it gets split into its constituent colours because each colour has different wavelength and due to different wavelength each colour has different refractive index.
Refractive index, \(\mu =A+\dfrac{B}{{\mathit{\lambda }}^{2}}\)
Where, \(A,B\;\)are constants and \(\mathit{\lambda }\)is wavelength.
\(\mathit{\mu }\propto \dfrac{1}{\mathit{\lambda }}\).
