The earth takes \(24\;\text{h}\)  to rotate once about its axis. How much time does the sun take to shift by \(1^0\)  when viewed from the earth?

Answer

Time taken by Earth in one complete rotation \(=24\;\text{h}\)
\(\mathit{i.e}\)  time taken by \(360^0\)  shift \(=24\;\text{h}\)
\({\therefore}\) time taken for \(1^0\)  shift
\(=\frac{24}{360}\)  
\(=\frac 1{15}\;\text{h}\)  
\(=4\;\text{min}\)
