Question and Answer

Can we take one slab of p-type semiconductor and physically join it to another n-type semiconductor to get p-n junction?

Answer

The stated condition in the question is not possoble.
The roughness of the flat are even greater than the spacing of the inter-atomic crystal.\((\sim2 \text { to } 3\; \dot{A})\) and therefore the it is not possible to have a uninterrupted contact at the atomic level. For the flowing charge carriers the junction acts as a interruption.
